Younger Dryas in the UK Essay Example

More youthful Dryas in the UK Essay The Younger Dryas alludes to the last period of cool, icy conditions going before the sudden climatic warming toward the start of the Holocene. The presence of the Younger Dryas in Europe has been known for the majority of this century, albeit late research recommends that the Younger Dryas cooling may have been worldwide. Evaluations of the planning of the occasion have additionally improved as of late, demonstrating that both the beginning and end of the Younger Dryas were sudden, happening inside decades. The Younger Dryas has been connected with a huge scope move of the North Atlantic thermohaline dissemination (THC) to a close to frigid mode with a subsequent decrease in northward warmth transport. This move in the THC may have been activated by a release of Laurentide ice, joined with meltwater contributions from a few areas around the North Atlantic. Further investigation of the occasions paving the way to the Younger Dryas is important for improving hypothetical comprehension of unexpected climatic change, and for assessing GCM models which look to reproduce the reaction of the THC to freshwater forcing(Nicholas 2009). With anticipated increments in freshwater contribution toward the North Atlantic coming about because of increments in climatic CO2, a future move in the THC is a chance. Anticipating the greatness and climatic results of such an occasion relies on further investigation of the Younger Dryas and of other unexpected palaeoclimatic changes which included the THC. The planning of the Younger Dryas was first settled utilizing radiocarbon dating and appointed to the surmised stretch 11,000 to 10,000 years before the present (BP). The genuine date of the Younger Dryas has now been built up utilizing centers of ice penetrated from the Greenland ice sheet. Cautious investigation of ice layers that developed close to the focal point of the ice sheet has built up that the beginning of the Younger Dryas was around 12,800 schedule years prior, and its end about numerous years back. The Greenland ice centers give such an unmistakable and solid record of the Younger Dryas that they can be utilized as a measuring stick against which different sorts of proof can be compared(Lehman 1992). Remade temperatures, in light of the isotopic piece of oxygen secured up in the ice, are around 7 degrees C colder in focal Greenland during the Younger Dryas than in the previous and succeeding warm periods. The ice-center record shows that the cooling toward the beginning of the Younger Dryas was slow, yet the warming toward the end was exceedingly quick, happening inside a couple of years or decades all things considered. The rate of this climatic change, which is likewise recorded in marine and earthbound records from around the North Atlantic, is one of the most charming parts of the Younger Dryas; it is additionally normal for other moderately fleeting scenes during the last icy time frame. The Greenland ice centers likewise record changes in barometrical organization. Air bubbles caught inside the ice show that during the Younger Dryas centralizations of the ozone harming substances, carbon dioxide and methane, were lower than present day characteristic levels, and were like those of full frosty occasions. Methane specifically shows a huge swaying, intently following the example of temperature change. At long last, precipitation changed during the Younger Dryas, with snow amassing about portion of that for the succeeding early Holocene(Broeker 1990). This proof for low precipitation is good with the temperature record, since cold air can't convey as much dampness as warm air. In Europe, the Younger Dryas cooling is generally articulated in Britain, southern Scandinavia, northern Germany, the Low Countries, and northern France, and decreases in significance toward the north, east, and south. On the opposite side of the Atlantic, the occasion is unmistakably conspicuous in the sea regions of Canada and the north-eastern United States, however is less obvious further west. A brief cooling is additionally demonstrated by some dust records from the Pacific shore of North America, as far north as Alaska. a few researchers accept that the Younger Dryas can be perceived in dust profiles from the northern Andes, Chile, Japan, and Australia, yet others oppose this idea. There is fascinating proof that the Younger Dryas acquired changes wind flow and dampness equalization to some low-scope mainland areas(Bond 1993). Lake levels in East Africa fell, demonstrating dry conditions and a decrease in the ashore move of soggy air from over the Indian Ocean. The Tibetan level is likewise thought to have been dry around then. Interestingly, the plateaux of Central China seem to have had a wetter atmosphere than in the first and succeeding periods. This wet atmosphere has been credited to an increased temperature slope between a warm land surface and a moderately cool western Pacific, and a resulting reinforcing of the mid year rainstorm. Moreover, the Altiplano in the high Andes likewise seems to have been wetter around then. The atmosphere of the Younger Dryas made the conditions for icy mass extension, particularly in north-west Europe. The Scandinavian ice sheet, which had been in retreat until around 12-000 (radiocarbon) years prior, experienced a noteworthy readvance and framed conspicuous moraines at the constraint of ice advance in Norway, Sweden, and Finland. Ice spread in Britain had likely been diminished to confined leftovers in Scotland between 13-000 and 12-000 radiocarbon years prior, however during the Younger Dryas a considerable ice field shaped over the western Scottish Highlands (privately known as the Loch Lomond readvance) and littler mountain icy masses became set up somewhere else in Britain and Ireland. More youthful Dryas ice sheet advances of littler greatness have been recognized in the European Alps, the North American Cordillera, the Andes, and New Zealand, despite the fact that dating proof is fragmentary and a long way from sure in numerous regions. In certain zones, the cold record indicates climatic changes inside the Younger Dryas(Atkinson 1987). In western Scotland, retreat of certain icy masses was well under route before the temperature increment that denoted the finish of the stade, proposing that deglaciation may have started because of an abatement in snowfall. Changes in the wealth of certain dust types additionally show that the Younger Dryas in north-west Europe comprised of a damp, cold period followed by a progressively parched (yet cool) period.

A Note of Hope for Freshmen at Career Fair

A Note of Hope for Freshmen at Career Fair MIT’s (in)famous fall career fair is this coming Friday…which means campus is already gearing up for the mad rush for jobs and free goodies. People are lining up in Lobby 10 to collect their booklets and nametags; students are printing leaflets of resumes before the printers get tied up on Thursday evening; and companies are already staking out meeting rooms around campus to dispense food and swag to interested students. We even have a student holiday on Friday so people can focus on finding employment. It’s pretty crazy. Career fair is so intense, MIT publishes an entire bound magazine listing all the companies that are coming. This is my homework for Friday! It’s even crazier if you’re a first-semester freshman and you don’t know what business casual means, much less how to find a job. So for most freshmen, career fairs turn into a giant corporate scavenger hunt where you can stock up on assorted knickknacks like water bottles, pens, phone card-holders, and enough T-shirts to not have to do laundry until after finals week. :D A lot of this behavior is motivated by a sense of resignation. Common wisdom around MIT says that freshmen can’t get jobs at career fairs. I can’t emphasize this enough: this advice is NOT TRUE. Freshmen can and do find interesting, relevant summer jobs. If you put yourself out there, there is definitely a chance that someone will want to hire you! This is my friend Angela. She worked at EA Games  over the summer. Yes, she is a 2019!   Also, if youre wondering why shes holding a sign that says ABOUT, try to find her here  ;)   I was so jealous of my friend Helenshe was working at the ed-tech company  edX over the summer. And Kevin worked at Ori Systems in Boston, a design firm that makes transformable appliances/furniture for space-constrained urban housing! (Which looks super cool!) (Also if you havent seen his blog post on resume-writing yet, definitely check it out!) These are only a handful of the 2019s I know who ended up interning over the summer. Disclaimer: most of these people were working in Computer Scienceâ€"but I also know of people who found internships in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, and a variety of other fields! I was the last person I thought would get a summer job. I mean, I’d done some UROPs and taken some basic programming classes, but I’d never worked in a tech company before. But by spring of last year, I realized I really wanted to be in California for the summer. I wanted to spend time with my family, and I needed to get off-campus and out of town so that I wouldn’t start feeling burnt out before sophomore year even started. Problem was, I had to find something productive to do in Cali. In other words, I had to find a job. On the eve of xFair (MIT’s biggest spring career fair) I thumbed through the directory of companies and circled all the firms with offices in or near LA. I knew my chances of finding a job were pretty dismal, so I tried to compensate by talking to as many people I could. One of the people I talked to was the representative from PlayStation. He eventually called me back for a phone screening. That led to a Skype interview with a few members of a development team, and eventually I was offered a position as a front-end development intern in San Francisco. I was absolutely surprised and delighted. It was awesome. (See this blog post!) I learned a ton, got valuable experience, and had a great time. So basically my advice for freshmen would be: don’t sell yourself short! If you want a job, go for it. You get lucky when you open yourself to opportunities. Important tips for bluffing your way through a freshman-year career fair. Talk to people who you think won’t hire you. They might hire you! Talk to people who definitely won’t hire you. It’s really good practice. Career fair as a freshman can be overwhelming; it can be even worse if you’re a sophomore who actually needs to find a job and you don’t know how to approach company representatives. I’m so glad I got some practice at career fair last year. (Also, you never knowthey might hire you!) Don’t volunteer that you’re a freshman, and people actually might not notice! When I showed up to my summer job, my manager didn’t remember what year I was. My UROP supervisor didn’t ask what year I was all semester. :) Don’t turn down interviews!!! Coding or verbal. Even if you’re going to bomb them. Again, they’re great practice. Jobs aren’t everything. Swag is important too. ;) What I really mean is, don’t sweat it too much. Freshmen dont really need to find internships. Studying abroad is a great opportunity too and in some ways I regret that I didn’t do it. (But you should still practice talking to people.) Don’t sell yourself short. If someone wants to give you a shot, be ready to take it! Good luck!

Essay on Evaluating the Beck Anxiety Inventory - 2120 Words

Evaluating the Beck Anxiety Inventory The Beck Anxiety Inventory is a 21-item scale that measures the severity of self-reported anxiety in adults and adolescents. The inventory was created by Aaron T. Beck and his colleague, Robert A. Steer, at the Center for Cognitive Therapy, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. The most recent edition was published in 1993 by The Psychological Corporation, Harcourt Brace Company in San Antonio, TX. The first edition was published in 1988. The 1993 edition recommends different scoring guidelines than previous editions. There is only one form and one manual as part of the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). To purchase the BAI in 2010, the manual and 25 scoring sheets†¦show more content†¦The items of the BAI were drawn from three earlier self-report instruments that measured various aspects of anxiety. The BAI was developed with adult psychiatric outpatients and the manual recommends using caution with other clinical populations. Reliability The manual discusses internal consistency and test-retest in terms of reliability. Internal consistency is measuring how scores on individual items relate to each other or to the test as a whole. In two subsample studies, high internal consistency was found. In the first study, with a mixed sample of 160 outpatients, Beck, Epstein et al. (1988) reported that the BAI had high internal consistency reliability (Cronbach coefficient alpha = .92), and Fydrich et al. found a slightly higher level of internal consistency (coefficient alpha = .94). This means that the items on the BAI are all measuring the same variable, anxiety. Test-retest is testing for a relationship between a score from one test given at two different opportunities. A sample of 83 outpatients from the Beck, Epstein et al. study completed the BAI one week after their initial intake evaluation and before starting cognitive therapy. The correlation between intake and one-week BAI scores was .75 (p .001). This means that the patient’s responses were consistent from the first test to the second test a week later. Validity The manual considers five types of validity: content, concurrent, construct,Show MoreRelatedThe Beck Anxiety Inventory Developed By Aaron T. Race And Religion America s Foundation - 880 Words

America is considered to be one of the most tolerant and diverse countries in the world compared to others. However, Americans as individuals, are highly intolerant of each other’s beliefs and racial background. We are all not as accepting of each other as we claim to be. Race and religion are amongst a plethora of examples on how diversity in America can be intolerable. America’s foundation in a sense was founded on racism. Although we live in a much more different, accepting time, it wasn’t too long ago that there was segregation and extreme racism in our society. We as a society have now since evolved and are now more tolerable and diverse then what we once were. However, there still are cases in America that show just how far we still need to develop our tolerance. A prime example that racism is very much alive in America, is the fatal shooting of an unarmed African-American teen by the hands of an armed white police officer. On August 9th, 2014 in Ferguson, Missouri, Mike Brown was fatally shot by Darren Wilson, a white police officer. The disputed circumstances of the shooting and the countless riots and civil unrest had received attention all over the United States. Mike Brown was only eighteen at the time, and was shot unarmed, six times by the officer. This event and countless others show that there are still severe cases of active racism in America. Mexicans Essays - Employment Compensation, Income Distribution

Mexicans HOW IS THE MIDDLE CLASS MEXICAN VIEWED IN THE UNITED STATES? The middle Mexican sector comprises approximately 30 percent of the nation. Like its upper-income counterparts, this sector is largely urban and has educational levels superior to the national average. It consists of professionals, mid-level government and private sector employees, office workers, shopkeepers, and other no manual workers. The middle-sector share of overall income declined from 39 percent in 1984 to 36 percent in 1992. This means that the middle class in Mexico has a lot of differences from the United States ones; when you live in the United States, to be a middle class citizen means, have a car, an apartment, health care and even travel to foreign countries. The biggest difference between both cases is the income. According to government statistics, the vast majority of urban workers in the early 1990s earned less than US$15 per day. Sometimes this money isnt even enough to satisfy the basic requirements for a whole family as food and dress, so we must not think on travel to Europe. In 1993 the government reported that 10 percent of workers earned less than the minimum wage, 34.7 percent made between one and two times the minimum wage, and 36.5 percent received between two and five times the minimum wage (minimum wage 20.15 new pesos). The 1990 census demonstrated expanded access to basic public services such as running water and indoor plumbing. It also revealed, however, that Mexicans had not shared equally in these improvements. Our society is compound in an unfair way, equality doesnt exist, and it will be fine if the majority where high class but its the opposite we are in a society where the majority is living in poverty. With all this facts is easy for a foreign to make hasty generalizations, if you read that most of the country cannot read, you may believe its the whole country. But as I mentioned, Mexican middle class is growing throw education. The Mexican in the American territory is consider like an idiot, criticized and discriminated without valuable arguments. Is treat like an inferior person and dependent of the American society. A psychologist made the comment because he made his mastery degree in the United States, and its incredible to hear about discrimination when people has this educational level. Most of those persons let themselves be guided by appearances or wrong information. About Complex Sentences With This ESL Worksheet Complex sentences are made up of two clauses- an independent clause and a dependent clause. Independent clauses are similar to simple sentences. They can stand alone and function as a sentence: We didnt pass the test.  Angela won the competition. Dependent clauses, however, need to be used together with an independent clause. Here are some dependent clauses with independent clauses. Notice how they seem incomplete: Although he is ready. When it is done.   Independent clauses are combined with dependent clauses to make sense.   Well go to the bank because we need some money.  As soon as we land, Ill give you a call.   Notice that dependent clauses can come first. In this case, we use a comma.   Before she comes, well eat some lunch.Because hes late for work, he took a taxi.   Writing Complex Sentences Using Subordinating Conjunctions Complex sentences are written by using subordinating conjunctions to connect the two clauses. Showing Opposition or Unexpected Results Use these three subordinating conjunctions to show that there is a pro and con  or to contrast statements. although / even though / though Although I felt he was wrong, I decided to trust him.Sharon started looking for a new job even though she was currently employed.Though I couldnt understand a word, we had a great time! Showing Cause and Effect To give reasons use these conjunctions that keep the same meaning. because / since / as Since you need some help, Ill come over this afternoon.Henry felt he needed to take some time off because he had been working so hard. The parents paid for extra lessons as the children were very gifted. Expressing Time There are a number of subordinating conjunctions that express time. Note that the simple tense (present simple or past simple) is generally used in dependent clauses beginning with time subordinators.   when / as soon as / before / after / by By the time you get this letter, I will have left for New York.I used to play a lot of tennis when I was a teenager. We had a wonderful dinner after she had arrived. Expressing Conditions Use these subordinators to express that something depends on a condition. if / unless / in the case that If I were you, I would take my time with that project. They wont come next week unless you ask them to do so.In the case that he isnt available, well look for another consultant. Complex Sentence Worksheets Provide a fitting subordinator to fill the gaps in these sentences.   Im going to the bank _______ I need some money.I made lunch _________ I got home.________ its raining, shes going for a walk in the park.  ________ she finishes her homework soon, she will fail the class. He decided to trust Tim ______ he was an honest man._______ we went to school, she decided to investigate the situation.Jennifer decided to leave Tom _______ he was too worried about his job.Dennis bought a new jacket __________ he had received one as a gift last week.Brandley claims that there will be trouble _____ he doesnt complete the job.Janice will have finished the report ____ the time you receive the letter. Answers because / since / asafter / when / as soon as  although / even though / thoughunlessbecause / since / asbefore / when  because / since / asalthough / even though / thoughif / in the case thatby   Use subordinating conjunctions (though, if, when, because, etc.) to connect the sentences into one complex sentence. Can literature tell the truth better than other arts (Theory of Essay

Can literature tell the truth better than other arts (Theory of knowledge) - Essay Example Some novels are good, some are terrible. The same can be said of other art forms as well. Many paintings are really boring to look at, others you can't stop looking at them. Perhaps it is best to compare the best of novels with the best of other arts. That way the comparison will be more fair and people can see what really happens. Literature are made up of novels and non-fiction works. A novel is very good at getting the reader inside the head of the people who are involved. For example, in the Harry Potter books, the author lets the readers know what Harry is thinking. If you compare this to the films of the books, in the films you don't know what people are thinking. But in the films you see the action better. So when you see Harry on his broomstick attacking a dragon that is better when you see it then when you read it in the book. Films show action better than novels but also are more simple. Novels are much longer and can include more details than a film. A film tends to make things simple for the audience. A novel also takes longer to read than a film takes to watch. A person can read two days today but thirty pages tomorrow. They can then leave the book for a month without reading it at all. So a book is the kind of art that you can take at your own pace. Other arts need to be seen all at once. This is especially the case with a film. You can't really watc five minutes one day, thirty the next and then leave it for a month before watching the rest. It would not seem to make sense. A painting, like a film, shows things rather than tells us about them. It is a picture rather than words. A painting just shows one thing, or set of things, while a novel can tell a whole story of a person or many different generations. The fact that the picture is simple makes it easier for the person who is looking at it to understand what is happening. A sculpture is like a picture in that it shows a particular scene, and only one. The sculpture is different than either novels or films because it is very physical in nature. Some sculptures, as long as they are not too famous, can actually be touched by a person looking at them. You cannot touch a novel or a film. A sculpture can be looked at from different angles, while a novel can only really be read in one way. If you look at a sculpture from behind it will look different from in front. But it will be the same sculpture. Is this a better view of the truth than can be found in novels In one way, yes, because it is like reale life. For example, if you meet someone for the first time you can look at them from the front or from the behind. There are different angles. This is the same with sculpture. Theatre is a bit like sculpture, except it uses real people. You actually see real people in theatre, unlike in film where they are just light on a screen. That makes it different. Different because you can tell that they are real people on the stage. Every performance will be different. A novel is always the same, as is a film. Poetry is an art that is like literature more than the other artes. This is because it uses words, like the novel. The only way a person can understand poetry is to read it. The poem is different from a novel in the fact that it is rather much shorter. You can read most poems in a few minutes. In one way this is like looking at a painting, or, to less extent, a film. Some poetry can be very difficult to read, even

Want to Sell a Website? The Process :: Sell Website

Selling a Website - The Process Initial Seller meetings are conducted by the Seller's Broker (a professionally trained Business Broker, holding a Real Estate Agent license where necessary), and the Seller is educated on the process of selling a business. A Representation Agreement is filled out by the Seller's Broker & signed by the Seller. Immediately after signing the representation Agreement, the Seller provides the Broker the following: Complete lists of all equipment and other assets to be included or excluded in the sale; Profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and tax returns of the Business covering the last three years; The most recent interim profit and loss statement, balance sheet, and sales tax returns; Real and personal property leases; Copies of all patents, licensees, loan documents, contracts or agreements; All agreements relating to employee benefits; Any environmental reports; and Copies of all other documents needed to present a fair and accurate description of the Business to prospective buyers. During the representation period, seller will provide monthly updates of each such document during the period of this agreement where any material change has occurred. Seller consents to Broker publishing, advertising or distributing information about the Business to prospective purchasers and to cooperating brokers, and contacting landlords and any others regarding any of the information about the Business. Seller's Broker writes a narrative on the Business; the Representation Agreement is entered into the Sunbelt proprietary database, and a Business Profile is created. Seller's Broker introduces the Business to all of our other brokers during weekly office meetings. All other brokers match the Seller's Business Data (SBD) against Buyers in their respective queues (Buyers who have previously been interviewed, signed a Confidentiality Agreement and filled out a detailed Buyer's Profile); Seller's Broker plans an advertising strategy; and the SBD is added to web sites in such a manner so the general public cannot identify the business. Buyers in queue and Buyers who have responded from the advertisements will have their backgrounds and finances evaluated to see if they are qualified Buyers. If qualified Buyers are interested, they will be shown a Business Profile. If further interest is shown, the Seller's Broker will arrange a meeting with the Seller. If a Buyer wants to make an offer at a fair price, the Buyer's Brokerwill write the offer and secure a deposit. The Seller's Broker will present all offers to the Seller.

Recruitment Training Performance Mana gement Labor relation Employee relation Job analysis Job designSelection Development Incentives Benefits d) Recruitment Recruitment is the process trough which the organization seeks applicants for potential employment. Selection refers to the process by which it attempts to identify applicants with the necessary knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics that will help the company achieve its goals, companies engaging in different strategies need different types and numbers of employees. The strategy a company is pursuing will have a direct impact on the types of employees that it seeks to recruit and selection.Source of recruitment There are two kinds of source Millennium Garments Ltd. uses for recruitment . They are 1. External source 2. Internal source. We try to discuss all relative sources which are used for recruitment in Millennium Garments Ltd. Internal source Millennium Garments Ltd. thinks that current employees are a major source of recruits for all but entry -level positions. Whether for promotions or for ‘Lateral’ job transfers, internal candidates already know the informal organization and have detailed information about its formal policies and procedures.Promotions and transfer are typically decided by operating managers with little involvement by HR department. Job-posting programs HR departments become involved when internal job openings are publicized to employees through job positioning programs, which informs employees about opening and required qualifications and invite qualify employees to apply. The notices usually are posted on company bulletin boards or are placed in the company newspaper. Qualification and other facts typically are drawn from the job analysis information. Departing Employees An often overlooked source of recruiters consists of departing employees. Many employees leave because they can no longer work the traditional 40 hours work week . School, child care needs and other commitments are the comm on reason. Some might gladly stay if they could rearrange their hours of work or their responsibilities . Instead, they quit when a transfer to a part-time job may retain their valuable skill and training. Even if part-time work is not a solution, a temporary leave of absence may satisfy the employee and some future recruiting need of the employer. External source When job opening cannot be filled internally, the HR department of MILLENNIUM GARMENTS LTD. ust look outside the organization for applicants. We discuss all the external source of recruitment at bellow: Walk-ins and Write-ins: Walk-ins are some seekers who arrived at the HR department of MILLENNIUM GARMENTS LTD. in   search of a job; Write-ins are those who send a written enquire . both groups normally are ask to complete and application blank to determine their interest and abilities. Usable application is kept in an active file until a suitable opening occurs or until an application is too old to be considered valid, u sually six months.Employee referrals: Employees may refer job seekers to the HR department . Employee referrals have several advantages . Employees with hard –to –find job skill may no others who do the same work. Employee’s referrals are excellent and legal recruitment technique, but they tend to maintain the status quo of the work force in term of raise, religions, sex and other characteristics, possibly leading to charges of discrimination. Advertising Want ads describe the job and the benefits, identify the employer, and tell those who are interested how to apply .They are most familiar form of employment advertising . for highly specialist requites, ads may be placed in professional journal or out of town newspaper in areas with high concentration of the desired skills. Example: General Manager- production (ref: PM) -Age: 28-35 years; Graduate with specialization in garment mfg technology from NIFT or equiv. -Minimum 10 years experience in similar position of a unit with a minimum of 1000machines. -Must have detailed hands on knowledge of industrial engineering. Internet Now today no body thinks anything without internet. So MILLENNIUM GARMENTS LTD. give their advertisement at internet. Example:www. bdjobs. com , www. millennia-bd. com e) Selection: The HR department informed us that their tests of selection are valid by for their own garments. They usually test cognitive abilities for higher officials & test of motor abilities for workers . They also work simulations. After successful reference checks the HR Department selects employees. ) Training & Development Training is a process of learning a sequence of programmed behavior. It is application of knowledge. It gives people an awareness of the rules procedures to guide th eir behavior. It attempts to improve their performance on the current job or prepare them for an intended job.
